• We believe we should all do our bit so let's be honest, the packaging for your FLYTE AERO sunglasses is probably going to end up in the bin. Knowing this, we try to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill by making our packaging as sustainable as possible.

By reducing the use of plastic, tape, foam and other non-environmentally friendly packaging, your sunglasses are just that little bit nicer to the world around us.

As an added bonus it saves you a few dollars too, after all, fancy boxes cost money. So if you pay for the pair and not the packaging, it's better for the planet.

Let's be real

If we are truthful with ourselves then we will realise that we can't be totally environmentally friendly. For example, in some areas we might need to use plastic packaging because there is no viable alternative. In other areas though we can do better.

Where we can, we choose not to use materials that are bad for the environment. This is especially so in our packaging. Much of this gets thrown away and, if it is not recyclable or biodegradable, it will end up in landfill somewhere. So, where possible, we eliminate the need for these items.

One area we are experimenting with at the moment is our shipping boxes. They are a boring brown box that we used to tape closed. This means that we had single use plastic on the box that reduces the ability to recycle it. At the very least, the tape had to be removed before the box can be recycled so there was an additional step. And you still had to get rid of that piece of tape.

Now, we are introducing a simple cardboard sleeve. We use virgin, or non-recycled, paper in these sleeves but our boxes remain boring brown. The best bit though? We no longer need those pieces of tape! We will still seal your box but at least the plastic we use is not stuck to the box and any labels with adhesive will be fixed to this plastic seal. It isn't perfect, but it does make it easier for you to separate recyclable material from general waste so we hope this means you do exactly that.

For a little while yet, your order may still be shipped in our older boxes or it may not have the outside seal but as we work through our existing packed stock we will be moving to the newer, more ecofriendly, packaging. And of course, we will strive to remove even more plastics and non-recyclable/biodegradable materials from our packaging.

It is our little contribution to being planet positive.
